Bridge House Gardens

This pocket park by Richmond Bridge (a Grade I listed building) is a popular space. However, due to dense vegetation and dark under-lit spaces it was prone to anti-social behaviour and had been the scene of a number of attacks. The gardens were underused because of people's fear of crime, and also because of poor accessibility into the gardens from both from the bridge and from the Thames Path.

London's Arcadia has transformed it into a high quality space with greatly improved access from both from the bridge and the towpath. Major hard and soft landscaping works were carried out to make better use of the space. All of the planting works in this scheme was carried out by a dedicated team of volunteers. This has proved very successful with the majority of the soft landscaping work surviving the challenging spring and summer months of 2006.
